Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the very common complications of Diabetes. It is sight threatening and one of the commonest causes of permanent blindness. So a regular eye check up including Retinal Examination at Regular Intervals is necessary even in patients with Normal or Good vision to avoid permanent vision loss. Vision 2020 - The worldwide project by WHO also puts maximum stress on prevention and treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic Retinopathy Comprises of Retinal oedema and haemorrhage along with decreased blood supply (Vascular Insufficiency), new blood formations, vitreous haemorrhage and tractional retinal Detachment. Treatment like Photocoagulation, Intravitreal injection and Surgery

Other complications of Diabetes are early cataract Formation, Infection, Paralysis of Eye muscles and Glaucoma.
